Black smudges in the crease under my eye - is this mascara or eyeliner?

i keep getting a black smudge in the creases under my eyes.

i use pencil eyeliner (only on eyelid, not under the eye) and mascara (but only on top lashes).

do you know what might be causing this and how i can prevent/minimise it?Black smudges in the crease under my eye - is this mascara or eyeliner?
I'm 95% sure it's mascara. I've fallen asleep with eyeliner on before, and it hasn't ever smudged like that. Mascara on the other hand, it gets all over.

Think of it this way, if your rub your eye, what touches the under part of your eye? The lashes because you push them down there.Black smudges in the crease under my eye - is this mascara or eyeliner?
My guess was going to be the eyeliner, but you said you do not put it on bottom. The only thing I could really think of is when you blink, the mascara rubs off on your face, gradually leaving a line. You really can tell from the consistency of the material -- is it waxy or smooth? If it is waxy I would say it is more likely mascara.

If it is the mascara you can rub a tissue or piece of toilet paper lightly over your lashes. Also, an eyelash brush would work to remove any excess mascara.
Its both that is causing it to smear under your eyes. When putting eyeliner top and mascara top, when blinking it cause it to smear and wear off everytime. You could try using eyeshawdow eyeliner and waterprood mascara. To top things up, remember to apply primer on your eye (Urban Decay has good primer but its expensive), or you could use your loose powder and apply before you apply your eye routine.

I think it's your eyeliner. I would switch to a waterproof liner. I love MAC's Fluidline. It's $15 and comes in a ton of colors. It doesn't smudge or run with water. It stays on all day long if you put it on your waterline.

Another cheap option is L'oreal HIP Cream liner. It's $10 and you can get it at any drugstore.
not sure hun.. but a good tip would be put a bunch of loose powder or liquid foundation just below your eye where your getting this mark.. so when your done you can wipe it away easier!
It's the mascara. All you need to do is use a mascara brush to remove all of the excess mascara. :)
i think its the eyeliner not the mascara maybe u should put a little less of eyeliner
